AI-station, an organic dairy farm and a

great research station

Visits to the Swissgenetics bull breeding station, an organic dairy farm, and the AgroVet Strickhof research station.

Swissgenetics AI-station

Successful milk and beef producers rely on sustainable breeding strategies and professional production methods. To achieve this, high-performance and healthy animals are needed. The genetics programmes of Swissgenetics are aligned consistently to these requirements. Through the testing programmes operated in partnership with breeders and breeding organisations, marketable and future-oriented genetics are developed at an international level. Mülligen is the competence center for semen production at Swissgenetics, which fully meets the strict national and international health requirements as well as the requirements of the market. Approximately 180 bulls of 13 breeds live in the new stables, which are equipped with a modern loose housing system that fully complies with the Swiss animal welfare standards.

Organic dairy farm Schlossgut Wildegg

Schlossgut Wildegg is an organic farm in historic buildings close to Wildegg castle. Besides 70 dairy cows and 50 heifers, the farm also keeps pigs, sheep and a small flock of laying hens. The farm grows wheat, potatoes and silage maize organically, but also uses natural and artificial meadows as pastures for the animals. They sell their organic products in their beautiful farm shop directly to customers. We will enjoy an organic lunch prepared by their catering service

AgroVet Strickhof

At AgroVet-Strickhof, innovative research and education is carried out in the domain of animal production. The research covers both fundamental and applied research. Three different research sites open up a great potential. The research station AgroVet in Lindau is the principal research station for lowland situations (500 m above sea level) and has an up-to-date metabolic centre with respiration chambers for different animal species. Provided that resource efficiency and sustainability are given, both intensive production-oriented, and extensive sustainability-oriented farming can be developed.
